About Hallowed Ground
As a teenager,
I worked as a summer camp counselor for the NAACP and
was actively involved in the Children for Christ
youth program at Trinity Baptist Church and other non-profit
youth programs in Bronx, New York. During these formative
years, God planted a seed and a vision in my heart to
some day lead children to Christ through a summer camp
program. God has since expanded the vision to include
year-round retreats for anyone who is looking for a
Christian setting of renewal, revival and restoration.
Hallowed Ground
Christian Retreat is a non-denominational facility and
a member of the Association of Christian Camps and Conferences
(CCI/USA). Our mission is to initiate a hunger to know
and follow the will of God through the fellowship with
nature and the community of believers.
We want to reach
out to the local as well as the global community and
make this “burning bush “ a life changing experience.
We have developed many “sparks” that will bring members
from all walks of life together and cultivate the process
of self-enrichment.
In 2001-2002,
we started with weekend Retreats
at existing conference facilities. In the summers of
2003 and 2004 we held Camp Emmanuel
overnight camp. By the fall 2005, we sponsored Jaspers
Baseball. Our newly created Mentoring
and Gardening programs are ready
to be implemented during the 2006-2007 school year and
there are also plans for Saturday Tutoring
and Life skills Enrichment. Over
the years we have held countless Bible Study
sessions and Family Fellowships,
We have produced our first Children’s Musical
in the summer of 2006 and are planning to take the production
on the road in 2007. <
All these “sparks”
come from seven “Rays of Light” of the “Burning Bush”
and work together to cultivate relationships between
friends, our families, and to make a positive contribution
to improve our society.<
In the Holy Scriptures
when Moses climbed the mountain and came into the presence
of God, he was told to remove his sandals. When you
come to Hallowed Ground, we want you to remove your
sandals of weariness, anger, sorrow, envy, impatience,
sadness and pride, and be still to hear a word from
God. Our hope is that all guests will find a renewed
spirit and deeper, desire to understand and develop
relationships<
Hallowed Ground
uses a “back-to-basics” approach to help people find
Christ and to grow in their relationship with Him. Our
“back-to-basics” approach reflects simplicity in all
we do. We believe that through good food, worship, praise,
fellowship, quiet time and fun, our guests will experience
spiritual growth and renewal.
We believe that by returning to the simple basics
of life, you can:
* Commune with God.
* Discover the richness of His presence in nature.
* Grow in your personal spiritual walk.
* Commit yourself wholly to God.
Today, Hallowed Ground is housed on my personal property.
My wife, Leslie and I have eight acres that we are currently
using for the ministry. We are in the process of remodeling
to create a separate rehearsal space. Our goal is to
acquire 50+ acres to build out our vision. The enclosed
sheet entitled “Our Vision” shows the plans for this
new land, which include a prayer garden, lake, cabins,
and sports facilities.
As a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation, we are relying
upon sponsors such as you to help us bring our vision
to fruition. I am asking that you pray to discern God’s
will for your involvement in Hallowed Ground Christian
Retreat. Your support of this ministry will mean positive,
life-changing experiences for young children, college
students and adults. Our needs are great and your opportunities
to help are many. If you need more information about
our programs and how you can support us please call
or write us.
Thank you for your contribution, support and prayers.
Yours in Christ,
Lawrence C. Moore
Executive Director
